WHAT NOT TO WEAR TO AN INTERVIEW

10 Interview Fashion Blunders
What Not to Wear to the Interview

10 Interview Fashion Blunders

Any article about what to wear to an interview might well begin with a qualifying statement covering the extremes in various states (New York and California, for example) and industries (technology, manufacturing), which are possible exceptions to the normal rules of fashion. But it might surprise you to learn that those extremes have, over the last couple of years, begun to move closer to the middle ground.

Nowadays, if you were to ask 100 people their opinion about what to wear to an interview, the majority would answer, "Dress on the conservative side."

Anna Soo Wildermuth, an image consultant and past president of the Association of Image Consultants International, says, "Clothes should be a part of who you are and should not be noticed." She cites 10 dressing faux pas to avoid when interview time comes around:

Wild Nail Polish: This tip is for women or men. Extremely long or uncut nails are a real turnoff, too. Your nails should be groomed and neat.

Jangly Jewelry: Don't wear more than two rings per hand or one earring per ear. And no face jewelry or ankle bracelets allowed.

Open-Toed or Backless Shoes: And mules are a definite no-no. Out-of-date shoes should be thrown out or kept for other occasions.

Bare Legs: Wear stockings, even in humid summer weather. Stockings can be in neutral colors or a fashion color to match your shoes.

Out-of-Date Suits: These have lapels that are too wide (three inches or more) or too narrow (one inch or less). A good tailor can alter lapels. The style for men's jackets is full-body and looser rather than fitted or tight.
Short Skirts: Hemlines should not be more than three inches above the knee. Don't wear capri pants or leggings to the interview.

Leather Jackets for Men or Women: Even leather blazers are not good for interviewing purposes. They look like outerwear.

Turtlenecks for Men: A tie is preferable, at least in the first go-round. At the very least, wear a collared shirt.

Printed or Trendy Handbags: Purses should be conservative and inconspicuous.

Red Briefcases: Briefcases, purses and shoes should all be conservative in color and in good condition.
Conservative colors in various shades of blue and gray are best. Wearing black to the interview could be viewed as too serious. If you do wear black, make sure another color is near your face to soften the look. Brown is still considered questionable as a business color and probably should be avoided. Change your outfit's look for a second interview by wearing a different color blouse, shirt, scarf or tie.

An interview is not the place to make a fashion statement, though those in the creative/design field and the very famous can be more adventurous. Everyone else should opt for a conservative look. "More and more companies are returning to traditional professional dress," Wildermuth says.

Whatever you wear should accent the fact that you're a professional who's ready to get to work at a new job. Let common sense guide you, and it should be easy to avoid fashion blunders that could damage your chances of getting to the next step in the process. In this market, it is essential that you look good and your appearance is right for the job.

20 fashion blunder a girl or woman can make.....

Worst fashion mistakes a girl or a woman can’t risk making deserve quite a bit of space, my ladies, so do take not that this is going to be a pretty long list. On the bright side, you may even enjoy a few laughs or feel encouraged to take a trip down the memory lane and laugh over a particular fashion faux pas of your own or feel good about all those common fashion mistakes you’ve managed to avoid with success! But, let me spare you the long intro and share my top 20 worst no-no’s:

1. SHOWING TOO MUCH

Showing Too Much Showing too much of anything doesn’t make you look sexy! Furthermore, it’s one of the worst fashion mistakes in my book and pretty much any book out there. Sure, we can turn a blind eye but only if you’re younger than 20 which is generally considered a perfect age to invest in a few tops than reach past your belly button and learn that showing it all doesn’t guarantee you attention..or, at least, not any positive attention.

2. “MUFFIN TOPS”

“Muffin Tops” Having a bit of a problem with those hated “love handles” and being a total fan of low rise jeans I have, too, been tempted to say “Oh, what the heck” and ignore that fleshy overflow. Not a good road to take at all, ladies, so do take my advice and don’t let this fashion faux pas ever leave your rooms. The so called “muffin top” will literally butcher your fine physique, making your legs look shorter and your waist chunkier!

3. BEING STUCK IN PAST

Being Stuck in past Okay, let’s talk about one of the most common fashion mistakes women, from what I could note, usually in their thirties, forties and fifties are prone to and that’s being stuck in one specific period of their lives and refusing to acknowledge the fact that their bodies/lifestyle or simply fashion has changed. Some get stuck in their teens, refusing to let go of spaghetti strap tees, some are clinging to a certain image of themselves not fully realizing they need to readjust their focus and maybe experiment with different shapes and cuts and there are even some that favor a certain period of time and its fashion, refusing to go with the flow. Not an intentional fashion mistake for sure but definitely one that keeps those ladies from looking their best (remember TLC’s What Not to Wear?)!

4. IMPROPER FIT

Improper Fit Next on my list of worst fashion mistakes is, of course, wearing clothes that don’t fit right! Too large, too small – it doesn’t really matter, the point is that both can and do look bad and, even worse, make you look bad! Don’t hide in the folds of your baggy outfit and don’t try to squeeze yourself into something just for the sake of being able to say “I’m a size so-and-so”. Your outfit needs to have shape and structure, it needs to show off your best parts, flatter your curves and be kind to your critical spots.

5. POOR CHOICE OF MATERIALS

Poor Choice of Materials Although synthetic materials are generally a valid choice for evening attire not to mention quite a popular ingredient of many well made blends, there comes a time in every woman’s life when she really has to start paying attention to the inner labels, basing her choice on the quality of fabrics used to create a garment in question. Now, I don’t say we should switch to fine silks and whatnot overnight but yes, a quality “basic” piece is definitely worth a whole lot more than 5 so-and-so items bought on a whim, it will look good for years and will allow you to put together many wonderful not to mention classy looks.

6. BLING OVERLOAD

Bling Overload Playing up your outfit with a couple of carefully chosen pieces of jewelry is a definite DO and I really admire women who have a talent for mixing and matching and are always capable of pulling off a new trend perfectly. Over-doing it, however, is downright one of the worst fashion mistakes out there and probably something you’ll want to make sure to avoid, unless you really have a knack for keeping the Christmas spirit strong all year long. Wait…strike that… looking like

Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 Is Bigger, Better, and Filled With All-New Bad Guys

Legends of Tomorrow's second season is going to be even better than the first, and that's a promise (or at least a hunch) from the stars themselves.

"Last year, it was a new show. ...With any big new show, there are always a few problems and you have to find out what works, what doesn't work," star Dominic Purcell dished to E! News at Comic-Con, which you can watch in the video above. "Last year we had those experiences—not a lot, but a few—and we've worked out the kinks. This year we're going in a completely different direction and I'm guessing it's going to be even better than the first."

While that may or may not be true, the whole gang will have plenty of bad guys to fight now that there's a whole rotating Rogues Gallery.

"We have Damien Dahrk, he's a friend of Sara Lance's," says showrunner Phil Klemmer.

"I've got a long kill list this year," Lotz shoots back.

And that's an understatement, since the Legends have been racking up enemies at a pretty incredible rate just over their first season. With season two, that list is about to get even longer, thanks to the Legion of Doom.

"That sounds ominous, doesn't it?" Klemmer says of the Legion, which traditionally includes 13 different supervillains led by Lex Luthor. Some familiar names in the Legion include The Riddler, Toyman, Scarecrow, and even Leonard Snart, AKA Captain Cold.

Over most of the first season, it was all of the Legends against one main bad guy, so the Legion of Doom gives the gang the chance to fight evil in a whole new way.

"It means that we can use all of our abilities to their max and split off and chase people and it opens the whole show out for some quite exciting possibilities," Arthur Darvill explains.

Of course, Legends isn't only about fighting bad guys. Occasionally, there's time for a bit of romance, and for Sara, there will be love interests aplenty.

"I think she might have a few," Lotz says. "She's kind of a player this season—dude and a girl in every port. It's not her fault that everyone wants to hook up with her!"

Watch the video above for more scoop from the cast, and be prepared for one epic premiere when Legends returns tonight.
