This 4-Ingredient Banana-Cinnamon Ice Cream Is Exactly What You Need in a Heat Wave

There's no shortage of ice cream on the market touted as "guilt free" for one reason or another. But we decided to take the concept a step further, and create an ice cream that's actually good for you, not just not-bad for you.

What's so great about our no-cook recipe? Glad you asked!

For one, it's a "nice cream," made with bananas. So many reasons to love bananas. In short, they're a good source of potassium (important for blood pressure), prebiotics (to feed the good bacteria in your gut), resistant starch (hello, metabolism booster) and fiber. Then there's the cinnamon, a secret hero of your pantry. It adds natural sweetness, helps manage blood sugar, contains trace minerals, and is antioxidant-rich, anti-inflammatory, and heart healthy.

What's more, this ice cream has zero added sugar; vegans can use a non-dairy milk; and you don't need an ice-cream maker to whip it up. But perhaps best of all on hot, steamy days, the recipe requires no cooking whatsoever, so your kitchen stays nice and cool.

Cinnamon-Banana "Nice" Cream

Yield: About 3 cups; serves 4 to 6

4 medium ripe bananas (about 6.5 oz. each), peeled, sliced and frozen

2-4 Tbsp. milk of choice (I used unsweetened almond)

2 tsp. cinnamon

2 tsp. vanilla extract

Generous pinch of salt

In a food processor or high-speed blender, combine bananas, 2 Tbsp. milk, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt. Pulse until blended and smooth. Pulse in more milk, if needed. Serve right away (it will have the consistency of soft-serve), or transfer to a container, cover, and freeze to serve later.

How to Make a Sweet Potato Egg Nest

You have friends coming over for Sunday brunch—what to make that will look impressive, taste good, and also leave everyone feeling energized? We have the perfect solution. These little nests combine vitamin-rich sweet potatoes (also a great source of fiber, potassium, and other nutrients), a protein-packed egg, and metabolism-boosting chili powder. Watch the video for the recipe and step-by-step demonstration. Plus, look how cute they are!

Ingredients

1 lb. sweet potatoes, ends trimmed, potatoes scrubbed and thoroughly patted dry
3 Tbsp. neutral oil, like grapeseed
3/4 tsp. chili powder, optional
Salt and pepper
12 large eggs

RELATED: 8 Excellent Recipes for Hard Boiled Eggs

Preparation

1. Preheat oven to 350ºF. Using a food processor with a shredding attachment or the large grates on a box grater, shred sweet potatoes (you’ll have about 4 2/3 cups). Warm oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sweet potatoes and chili powder, if using. Season with salt and pepper. Cook, stirring often, until just tender, about 4 to 5 minutes. Transfer to a bowl and let cool.

2. Mist a 12-cup muffin tin with olive oil cooking spray. Place about 1/3 cup potatoes in each muffin cup. Press potatoes firmly into bottom and sides of each cup. Bake for 5 minutes.

3. Crack an egg carefully into each cup. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Bake until eggs reach desired firmness, 20 to 25 minutes. Let cool for 5 minutes in pan before carefully removing. (Run a knife or offset spatula around edges before carefully lifting out.) Sprinkle with parsley just before serving, if desired. Chopped parsley, for garnish, is optional.

Note: Be sure to use large eggs, not extra large, because extra large will overflow the muffin cups.

12 Healthy Breakfasts for Busy Mornings

When it comes to breakfast, the options are endless. Pancakes or waffles? Bacon and eggs? Muffin followed by a pastry? So why limit those delicious dishes to the morning hours? Here are 34 healthier snack options to satisfy those breakfast food cravings all day long.

1. Nut Butter, Banana, and Chia Seed Toast

Try this superfood twist on classic PB and toast with 1/2 a banana (sliced) and a sprinkle of chia, which is packed with vitamins and minerals (like six times more calcium than milk!).

2. Berry and Yogurt Smoothie

Here’s a simple and delicious smoothie for the morning rush. Blend frozen fruit (banana and berries work well) with Greek yogurt and a liquid of your choice (milk, juice, coconut water—whatever you like). Freeze overnight and thaw throughout the day to enjoy in the afternoon or blend up in the morning.

3. Savory Oatmeal With an Egg

Photo: Martha Stewart
Take oatmeal to a whole new level by making it savory. Prepare as usual with milk or water, but add a pinch of salt and pepper instead of any cinnamon or sugar. Then top with an over-easy or poached egg and sprinkle on a little cheese for an extra tasty kick.

4. Quinoa Fruit Salad

Spice up a plain old fruit cup with a scoop of quinoa. Toss the whole shebang around until the quinoa is evenly distributed. Add a dressing of honey, lime, and basil for a little extra body.

5. Tomato Toast With Macadamia Ricotta

Here’s a healthier take on a classic breakfast sandwich: Take 2 slices of a hearty whole-grain bread, spread each slice with 1 tablespoon of homemade macadamia ricotta cheese, and sprinkle with shiso or basil, kosher salt, and fresh cracked pepper to taste. Add 1-2 hearty slices of fresh heirloom tomatoes (blotted with paper towel to remove excess liquid) and enjoy.

6. Quinoa and Chia Porridge

Cooking quinoa in milk (cow, soy, or almond) and adding some sweet spices and fruit makes for a great substitute for classic hot breakfast cereals. Plus, it’s high in protein and essential amino acids like lysine, which is essential for tissue growth and repair. Simply put all the ingredients into a pot and bring to a boil. Then simmer, stir, top with your favorite add-ons, and enjoy!

7. Avocado Toast With Egg

Sometimes simple is just better. Top two lightly toasted slices of whole-grain bread with smashed avocado and a sprinkling of salt and pepper. Stack 'em in a tupperware container for easy transport or cook the yolks a bit more and make the whole thing into a sandwich.

Shoes To Wear With Grey Jeans

You try your best to make sure your jeans and t-shirt match well, so don’t trip up at the last hurdle – your shoes. A pair of shoes can really make or break your outfit so it’s worth putting the effort in to learn the basics.

Read more Men’s Style Guide features.

Compared to the versatile blue jean, grey jeans are a little trickier to style. The lighter the shade the more difficult it gets. Saying that, dark grey can be incredibly easy to style. The darker colour gives off a more formal feeling. Mixed with the casual nature of denim, it means that the dark grey variety can be paired with almost any type of shoe. It really depends on the shade and type of jeans.

In this guide we will take you through the different types of grey jeans from their cut to their shade, and reveal the perfect shoes to style them with. You could say, we’re giving you a step in the right direction (pun intended).

What Shoes To Wear With Grey Jeans

We often don’t give as much thought to our shoes, grabbing a pair before we run out of the house. For moments like this, it’s good to know which type of shoe you should be reaching out for to make sure you’re looking great from head to toe. There are plenty of options when it comes to pairing men’s shoes with jeans, from sneakers and loafers to boots or brogues. The key lies in the colour, style and material of the shoe.

What Colour Shoes To Wear With Grey Jeans

The colour of your shoes makes all the difference. Know how to choose the right colour for a classic, sporty, stylish or casual look.

The Idle Man SS16 Lookbook
Black Shoes Grey Jeans

Black and grey is a classic combination, and depending on the type of shoe, can be very sartorial and business like. This can make it quite a tricky colour to pair with casual denim. So generally speaking, black shoes go better with dark grey jeans as they look smarter and make less of a dramatic contrast than pairing them with light grey.

Alternatively, if you’re going for a black shoe, choose something casual such as sneakers to avoid looking mismatched. You could also try turning up the cuffs of your jeans to show a bit of ankle, resulting in a less dramatic contrast between lighter greys and black.

Brown Shoes Grey Jeans

Brown shoes are surprisingly versatile. Deep, rich brown tones go well with almost any colour of trouser and are far easier to match than black shoes. In terms of grey jeans, dark brown goes best with dark grey whereas light brown goes best with light grey. Whether you choose loafers, boots or brogues, every man should own a good pair of brown shoes.

Blue Shoes Grey Jeans

Following the general rule, dark blue shoes go best with dark grey and light blue works well with light grey. However, dark blue also pairs nicely with light grey.

Try to choose a blue with a hint of grey in its colour rather than pure blue to really make the shoes complement your jeans well. In other words, a blue that looks sort of faded in its tone. Blue suede tends to go quite well with grey jeans for a smart look whereas canvas sneakers work great for a casual look.

Grey Shoes Grey Jeans

This is a trickier look to pull off but as long as you make sure the shades of grey are significantly different, you should be ok. It’s best to avoid a grey t-shirt in this case, as you don’t want to end up looking like a stone gargoyle. Sneakers or suede shoes are the way to go with this style.

Oxblood Shoes Grey Jeans

Oxblood is almost as versatile as brown and is a good way of making a subtle statement, adding a bit of individuality amongst the traditional colours. As is often the case, deeper shades complement more colours than lighter shades so you’re best to stick to rich mahogany tones.

This colour looks great in all different types of shoe, including brogues, loafers, boots or boat shoes.

Men’s Fashion Basics – The Right Bag For You

Just when you think you’ve got everything sorted in this menswear game, something comes along and throws a right old spanner in the works. You have nailed your fit, curated the perfect capsule wardrobe, and even developed a vast and glorious shoe collection – only to find one day that you’re still missing that little bit extra. That tiny corner you'd forgotten to check for boring, unstylish mice. The sartorial monster under your bed.

For me, and I’m sure most men out there, that monster is the ever elusive 'right bag'. Or rather the right bag for both my lifestyle and personal style. Because no matter what I do or how hard I dress – my bag game always seems to let me down.

Let’s face it, choosing the right bag can often be confusing and intimidating. There are plenty of options to choose from out there that come in a myriad of colours, materials and sizes all at varying price points. With so much to consider, it can be hard to know where to start. Or even when to finish. Which leaves most of us still bag-less – or settling for something we didn’t really want.

Furthermore, as with other aspects of men’s style, practicality, functionality and masculinity are contributing factors to selecting the perfect bag. As a friend of mine said to me last week: “The trouble with a bag is that I can’t help thinking I look really feminine carrying it around.”

I explained to him that he felt like that for two reasons. The first was that all the bags we’d looked at were a bit too ‘fancy’ for his style (student/tramp) – what he needed was something made from a rugged and durable material such as suede or canvas. Secondly, he was selecting bags that looked cool and quite fashion-forward but had no chance of ever holding half the stuff he carried around on a daily basis, such as books, notepads and stationary.

If this sounds like you, then remember what I said above - practicality, functionality and masculinity. It's a lot easier to carry around a bag once you feel it’s actually serving a practical purpose in your day.

Top 5 Bags For Men
So, without any more of my babbling, here are five different types of bag that are both fool-proof and extremely suitable for any aspiring stylish gentleman.

1. The Duffel Bag/Holdall

If in doubt, this should really be your go-to. It’s the default option because it can perform multiple functions on a daily basis while still retaining an element of style.

It's ideal for the gym goer who likes to keep their gear close to hand. The perfect companion for the weekenders who exclusively carry-on. And for anyone who tries to live anything resembling an interesting life outside of work, it’s basically your portable wardrobe.

Pick one that is a medium size (i.e. not too small nor too big) and if possible opt for a leather version in brown. Leather is more versatile than canvas, especially when it comes to selecting an all-purpose bag, and will go with most looks you put together:

2. The Briefcase

Ah, a word that strikes fear into most men born in and around the 90s – the dreaded briefcase! But don't worry, a new breed has arrived that shakes off the dusty cobwebs of suited and booted fathers gone by. They are sleeker, slimmer and less boxy, which makes them ideal for the modern gentleman who only ever needs to carry around his laptop and a hand full of papers.

If you work in an environment that requires you to wear a suit, I’d suggest purchasing one in black leather. Anywhere else, try one in canvas for a more casual yet completely non-feminine look. A canvas briefcase is also ideal for anyone looking to make the jump from a messenger bag (which is less practical and more feminine if you ask me):

3. The Backpack

As we all know, fashion is about cycles. What goes around comes around guys and, right now, that is very true for the backpack. Hands free, minimal fuss and surprisingly capable of holding a fair amount of stuff, it’s the ideal choice for a sartorial student, casual man or every day bike rider.

A high court in Ibadan sentenced Auxilliary to six years imprisonment
Lamidi, popularly called Auxilliary, was sentenced by a high court for his role in the union’s crisis that resulted in the death of some residents in Ibadan, the state capital on June 4, 2011.

Others who have been sent to jail with him include Saheed Kareem, Abu Kareem, Kazeem Kayode and Taiwo Tijani.

The Nation reports that the five persons had been on trial after their arrest in 2014.

Justice Eni Esan, who delivered the judgement, said the accused were charged with three counts of conspiracy, murder and attempted murder.

According to the report, the judge held that the prosecution witness, Akeem Agbaje, told the court that he was beside Adekunle Adedipupo, a graduating medical student who was killed in the incident, on the day the accused stormed the motor park in a Peugeot 604 belonging to Auxiliary as well as two other Micra cars, shooting sporadically.

The witness told the court that it was during the shooting that bullets hit the deceased, who died immediately while he sustained serious injuries.

The judge however discharged the accused on the charge of murder since the witness could not prove that he actually identified the killers through the head lamp of the cars they brought since the incident happened at night.

He noted that the accused mentioned Auxilliary as their leader in a statement they made to the police and that they had been meeting in his Diamond Hotel at Alakia Isebo, Ibadan.

Counsel to Auxiliary, Olalekan Ojo, said his clients would appeal the judgment.

There have often be clashes between factions of the union in various parts of the country. On Wednesday, May 11, some of the union members grounded commercial activities in a part of Lagos in protest against one of their leaders.

Senator Dino Melaye
Senator Dino Melaye has blamed the wife of the All Progressives Congress (APC) national leader Oleremi Tinubu of spending N75m on hate protest against him.

The senator in the post on his Facebook account said the protest is scheduled for July 20, Wednesday.

He wrote: “A civil rights movement, Committee for the Defence of Women’s Rights, has uncovered a plan by the wife of a former governor of Lagos State and chairman, Senate committee on women affairs, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu to sponsor a protest against Senator Dino Melaye this coming Wednesday in Abuja.

“The organisation said she has released N75 million to Lagos state APC woman leader, Mrs. Kemi Nelson through one of her sisters simply identified as Funlola. The national president of CDWR, Prof. Taibat Majekodunmi, made the revelation in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja. Already, the protesters have stormed Abuja and have booked for 300 rooms in many hotels in hotels in Abuja.

“According to her: “We have it on good authority that N75 million has been released by Senator Okuremi Tinubu to Mrs. Kemi Nelson through Mrs. Tinubu’s sister called Funlola. The money is to organise a protest in Abuja on Wednesday against the chairman, Denate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dino Melaye, with 1,000 protesters from Lagos.

“The protesters have booked for 300 rooms in some in hotels in Abuja. Why did she not organise a protest against the hardship of Nigerian women and widows. As we speak, Alade market in Ogba area of Lagos has been destroyed and all the women rendered shopless. Oluremi Tinubu did not organise protest about that.

“Against the provisions of the constitution of the All Progressives Congress Kemi Nelson doubles at the State APC women leader in Lagos and also the zonal women leader of APC in the South West. This will show her greediness and why the Tinubu dynasty has taken over Lagos.

“Women were killed in Kano and Abuja and Mrs. Tinubu is the chairman, Senate Committee on Women Affairs. She did not organise protest over these killings. Mrs. Tinubu has not protested against the skyrocketed price of tomatoes in the market. In the same vein, kerosine is now over N200 per litre and she didn’t organised any protest to that effect.

“You can imagine what N75 million will do in the lives of widows and hungry Nigerian women. We dare Mrs. Tinubu to go ahead with her planned N75 million protest in Abuja. We will also mobilise Nigerian women against this ostentatious display of wealth while the average Nigerian women wallow in abject poverty.”

Tinubu’s wife has on July 18, Monday, written a letter to acting Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, seeking protection from Senator Melaye.

She accused Mr. Melaye of planning to kill her, lamenting that the Senate leadership refused to call the senator to order.

Former governor Bola Tinubu had dared Melaye to beat his wife and see what he would do.

On his own part, Melaye said he flared up after Remi Tinubu called him a dog and a thug.
