Black Shoes Grey Jeans

Black and grey is a classic combination, and depending on the type of shoe, can be very sartorial and business like. This can make it quite a tricky colour to pair with casual denim. So generally speaking, black shoes go better with dark grey jeans as they look smarter and make less of a dramatic contrast than pairing them with light grey.

Alternatively, if you’re going for a black shoe, choose something casual such as sneakers to avoid looking mismatched. You could also try turning up the cuffs of your jeans to show a bit of ankle, resulting in a less dramatic contrast between lighter greys and black.

Brown shoes are surprisingly versatile. Deep, rich brown tones go well with almost any colour of trouser and are far easier to match than black shoes. In terms of grey jeans, dark brown goes best with dark grey whereas light brown goes best with light grey. Whether you choose loafers, boots or brogues, every man should own a good pair of brown shoes.

Blue Shoes Grey Jeans

Following the general rule, dark blue shoes go best with dark grey and light blue works well with light grey. However, dark blue also pairs nicely with light grey.

Try to choose a blue with a hint of grey in its colour rather than pure blue to really make the shoes complement your jeans well. In other words, a blue that looks sort of faded in its tone. Blue suede tends to go quite well with grey jeans for a smart look whereas canvas sneakers work great for a casual look.

This is a trickier look to pull off but as long as you make sure the shades of grey are significantly different, you should be ok. It’s best to avoid a grey t-shirt in this case, as you don’t want to end up looking like a stone gargoyle. Sneakers or suede shoes are the way to go with this style.

Oxblood Shoes Grey Jeans

Oxblood is almost as versatile as brown and is a good way of making a subtle statement, adding a bit of individuality amongst the traditional colours. As is often the case, deeper shades complement more colours than lighter shades so you’re best to stick to rich mahogany tones.

This colour looks great in all different types of shoe, including brogues, loafers, boots or boat shoes.
